I'm looking for some help with a font problem. If you feel I have
posted inappropriately I ask for your tolerance, as I am unsure as to
where my problem lies.
The problem is with an Oracle-based in-house application running in
Windows 3.1 on a DEC 433DX DT system with integrated (on-board) ATI
Mach 32 using the latest video driver.
The client runs an Oracle-based application on over 150 of these
computers on a LAN. The application use MS Sans Serif font at 800x600
resolution. The ATI driver (set for Large Fonts) makes text too large
for form text boxes at this resolution, and is therefore unuseable
(the text flows outside of the text boxes). The MS Win 3.1 generic
800x600 driver does not have this problem. Nor do numerous other
graphic card/driver combinations the client has tried.
The client does not want to replace the ATI, because it is local-bus,
and any replacement card would be ISA. The client cannot easily use
another font in the application - as this would involve a complete
recompile. Nor is the generic MS driver a solution, because it's
slower and causes problems under another terminal emulation package
they run.
We have tried switching off various features (txtengine etc.) in the
ATI driver - without success.
We have tried overwriting the ATI 800x600 sans serif font with the MS
generic equivalent, also without success.
THe client urgently needs a solution to this problem.
Any suggestions or direction (by e-mail) would be greatly appreciated
Michael.
