Hi,

I don't have a lot to do with Oracle, leaving the day-to-day admin & running with the users, but we're really stuck with this one (7.2.2.4.0 under Sol 2.5):

When dbstart runs, it fails with:

SQL*DBA: Release 7.2.2.4.0 - Production on Wed Nov 13 15:24:26 1996

Copyright (c) Oracle Corporation 1979, 1994. All rights reserved.

Oracle7 Server Release 7.2.2.4.0 - Production Release With the distributed, replication and parallel query options PL/SQL Release 2.2.2.3.0 - Production

SQLDBA> Connected.
SQLDBA> ORACLE instance started.
Database mounted.
ORA-00305: log 1 of thread 1 inconsistent; belongs to another database ORA-00312: online log 1 thread 1:
'/jaguar_opt2/oracle/orahome/dbs/log1sid1.dbf'
Attempting to dismount database........Database dismounted. Attempting to shutdown instance........ORACLE instance shut down. SQLDBA>
SQL*DBA complete.

Database "sid1" warm started.

-I can't find any way to recover from this, as sqldba can't talk to
anything. Trying to do anything fails with "ORA-01034 Oracle not available, ORA-07429 smsgsg: shmget() failed to get segment, SVR4 err 2: no such file or directory". This exact same problem happened a couple of months ago, and after much head-scratching and many reboots, it magically solved itself.

I've checked the backup situation, and apart from system (ufsdump) level backups of the filesystem, we have nothing.

Has anyone got any suggestions?

cheers,

bob
