SQL Net 2 problems

I am having trouble with SQL-NET 2.3.2.1.1 on Windows 95. The problem is, it works for some machines on the LAN, and not for others. Here is what I've done:

I installed SQLNet on two arbitrary machines. The machines in question are both on the same IP subnet. The host can be pinged from both machines. Subsequent to installation, I created exactly the same SQLNet 2 alias on both machines using SQL Net easy configuration.

When I test with SQL Plus, I get in on the one machine no problem. On the other I get ora 12154 - TNS could not resolve service name. This in spite of the fact that a tns.ora file exists, and it contains the relevant alias (identical configurations on both machines).

Is there anyone with ideas on this one?
