I have administered dozens of unix & nt machines with & without oracle databases. I have also worked with many client ranging from newbies to very experiences people.

My assesement is basically this. if you don't need the horsepower don't go with the unix boxes. Even if you do need the horsepower, get nt on a risc box.

You need experienced people to effectively maintain unix machines. you won't be able to hire someone for that so you will have to contract someone from time to time. That is expensive and a pain.

I have personally seen advanced <USERS> administer NT EFFECTIVELY. They have to be inteligent and interested of course.

How can you argue with that?
