-- Marvin, You have inadvertently stumbled into a "RELIGOUS" issue. If you look in the Oracle Performance Tuning Guide (small pamphlet that comes with the three books they deign to send) you will find contradictory statements regarding raw partitions. I personally prefer file systems. If Oracle could sell a file system manager, they would. I do not trust that blocks are written without a parity check. However, if you need parallel Server you are stuck , well maybe stuck. On EMC drives you may get around the requirement for raw partions. Eyal Aronnof of Quest Software has done a study of this from a conversation I had with him a year ago. If I remember correctly he was getting fantastic times from striped file system (LVM) contact Gil Asherie gil_at_quests.com he may be able to confirm. ______________________________________________________________________________ Michael J.
