orasrv hangs for no apparent reason

Environment: AIX 4.1.4, Oracle 7.1.6.2.0, SQL*Net v1.

Problem: About once a week, orasrv stops accepting connections and goes into a CPU loop. We need to kill the process and restart orasrv. Last night it was after 41000+ connections, so I suspect it's not a simply configuration problem. The 7.0 orasrv was extremely reliable - it is possible to use it, instead? Is there a different version to try?

(I know - update to SQL*Net v2. Maybe soon...)
