Have you tried connecting via SQL*Net v1.1 or v2? Force v3.2 of SQL*Plus to try both connections. The "connect string" you must specify in the format T:server:instance_name to get SQL*Net v1.1 in action, or an alias as defined by your Easy Configuration utility (or Oracle Network Manager) to use SQL*Net v2.
