Systems Administrator/Oracle Database Administrator

Job Description

€Provide user and system support for engineering workstations, servers, Xterminals  and LAN/WANs

€Ensure network and computing equipment availability
€Process requests from user community 
€Design, write, debug and install programs and scripts 
€Perform hardware and software upgrades 
€Install new machines, additional disks, network equipment and other hardware
€Work with network support staff on network planning and problems.

Application Database Design and Support

€Responsible for database technical builds in support of assigned projects. This includes logical database design, transaction analysis, physical database design,
backup and recovery procedures, and ensuring adherence to database standards and methodology.
€Performance, disk utilization, and data integrity of an application database €Support the production and test Oracle server environment. This includes installation and integration of new software, creation and execution of project plans to upgrade existing software and problem resolution involving any current Oracle software.

Required Experience/Skills:

€BS in Computer Science, MIS or equivalent experience €4 to 6 years¹ industry experience including 2 years¹ as a UNIX System Administrator

€2 years¹ experience as a relational database administrator (DBA)
€Experience maintaining SUN hardware. 
€Proficiency in a programming language and fluency in sh, ksh, and csh
€Excellent oral and written communication skills
€Oracle experience
€Expertise with performance tuning a relational database management system
€Knowledge of "C" programming
€Knowledge of UNIX (Sun Solaris)

Preferred Experience/Skills:

€Internetworking experience in managing LAN/WAN environment
€Network management in a multi-protocol environment
€Writing of system administration automation utilities and knowledge of Perl
€Administration of a heterogeneous environment that includes PC's running IPX

and Macs is desired.
€Strong analytical skills along with the ability to apply normalization techniques to create a sound logical design and subsequently take it into a physical database design
€Knowledge of data flow and entity relationship diagrams; relational databases and normalization; logical to physical database design; Oracle Reports; SQR; CASE tool.
