When we moved from 7.1.6 to 7.2.3 our export times almost doubled. Check out the oracle TWO_TASK=SID_beq environment variable. Our DBA set this and it cut our export time in half. Not sure where its documented but she said it definitely wasnt documented in the 7.2.3 installation doc.
