Question: Do you know if and how DNS (domain name services) are implemented on your two systems? Typically you will have a nodename like 'databaseserver.jyu.fi' somewhere. This name is resolved by the systems dns service. There are some options to avoid this, typically on NT maintaining a file called hosts, with the symbolic nodename and the IP-address in it. How this is implemented on VMS I don't know.
