Oracle "Universal Server" is simply 'markitecture', bundling a number of separate, incompatible servers. A REAL Universal Server should be able to optimize queries across a number of complex data domains (including 2, 3 and ndimensional  spatial data) simultaneously, transparently, and deep in the DBMS engine.

If you're interested in a Real Universal Server, including native, integrated support for spatial data, give Informix and Illustra a look:
