Hi everybody,

when I came into work this Monday morning, I was welcomed by the fact that our Oracle database was down! After I found that it wouldn't even boot up, I swapped the Sparc10 for another one we had, which was not being used. The system booted up, but one of the 4gb external drives would not come on line. Anyway, after spending a day and a half replacing drives and restoring full and incremental backups, we got the database back up and running. Luckily, we didn't have any major time critical projects to finish during this period.

Anyway, to get to the point of this post, we are now considering the implemenation of disk mirroring or even total mirroring of the Oracle database. Since, now I can't even boot up the original workstation, it says something like "Self Power Test Failed, Replace Main Logic board", disk mirroring alone could not have prevented this failure. Though, bringing the system back on line would have been a lot faster. Could the mother board failure have caused the external disk drive to fail, or maybe there was a power surge that zapped them both at the same time?

So, can anyone with experience in this ares recommend the best way to go. We presently have about 4gb of data on 8gb of disk space and are using a Sparc10 with 128mb of memory.

                All advice will be appreciated.
