Chuck, if you are going to reply, please read the message you are replying to, and make sure you stick to the theme.

The original poster (not the replier to the original poster) was not thinking of leaving his job because his employer would not let him have things his own way. The poster had taken a job, under certain terms and conditions, and operating in a certain environment.

His employer was subsequently considering a change to this environment. If the environment (and I'm not talking ecology here) was a significant deciding factor in the poster accepting the job in the first place, just precisely how is it childish for him to reconsider his position in the light of this change.

Can we kill this now please. We have already shown that there are two schools of thought out there:

  1. That the original poster is childish. I call this the Uninformed Mercenary Snob School.
  2. That the original poster has a perfect right to exercise his freedom of will as it affects his working life. I call this the Mature, Considered and Well Informed School.

I understand that this will be a little offensive to some who hold the latter opinion, but given the polite, discussive emails I have received from holders of the former view, and downright rude and insulting emails from those who blindly agree with the latter, I feel somewhat justified in a little rebuke.
