OS/2, oraperl and SQL*Net requirements?

After working up a journal's Web presence in AWK(!) last week (because I don't yet have a local copy of Oracle), I thought I'd tackle Perl.

I've got oraperl running on my home PC (running Warp Connect) which has an IP (sometimes SL/IP, sometimes PPP) connection to campus. There's a machine there that is running

ORACLE7 Server Release 7.0.15.4.0 - Production which I can connect to with other (Solaris) machines via SQL*Plus.

So...when I try ora_login(), I get dumped without *any* activity on my campus connection.

I suspect that this is because I'm not specifying my remote DBM correctly, and because I don't have a local (on my PC) Oracle environment.

I'm hoping that I can manually set my configuration so that oraperl is able to communicate with the campus DBM. Is that naive?

I've been banging on Alta Vista for a couple hours this morning trying to find clues to how I should be attempting this. So far, the most help has been from the "DBI Users:" messages. The ora_login() usages apparently vary widely, but I don't know enough about our installation to choose the correct one.

Any pointers to helpful information will be greatly appreciated.
