Oracle 7.2 with Delphi 1.0 is VERY slow. What to do?

We have an application built with Delphi 1.0 Client Server that uses Oracle 
7.2 database on Windows NT server. We are  using Oracle 71.11.0.5. ODBC - 
driver.



The problem is speed. Our program uses 8 different tables and it takes about 
10 sec per table or query to open. So it takes over a minute before the form 
is displayed on screen!! Once the tables and queries are opened 
the application works pretty fast though.



Before Oracle we had the database in Paradox tables and the performance was 
quite reasonable then. The tables are quite small (< 300 rows) and we have 1 
or 2 tables per query.



The problem is probably in ODBC-driver or server settings. 
 


Does anybody out there have any solution or hints for our problem? 
Is there any other way than ODBC to connect to Oracle7?
