Hi David
Tim has replied to your first question about autostart/shut of DB. You
might have to place the "su -c oracle $ORACLE_HOME/bin/dbstart" in
/etc/rc2.d
and "..../bin/dbshut" in /etc/rc0.d as seperate files, with names
appropriately chosen for activation of the deamons.
Also, you miught have to edit the file /etc/oratab and place a "Y" in
place of "N" against the entry for your instance.
As for the second part, you might consider looking into the groups and
users again. The "dba" group usually needs both "root" and "oracle" as
its members. And you only need to change the oracle users primary group
to dba and not the root's.
