Data Dynamics Announces DynamiCube 1.3,
First Internet-Enabled ActiveX OLAP Tool
Columbus, Ohio— Data Dynamics, Ltd., today announced an Internet/intranet enhancement for its groundbreaking DynamiCube On-Line Analytical Processing (OLAP) tool. DynamiCube 1.3 is the first product that brings interactive OLAP capabilities to ActiveX-enabled pages posted on the World Wide Web. Developers can use any 32-bit programming environment to add DynamiCube 1.3 to their applications.
OLAP systems let end-users display and manipulate business data in a
variety of formats and summary levels. Such systems provide insight into
up-to-date business data, and so support daily decision-making and
operations management. DynamiCube is an OLAP, 32-bit OLE custom control
for Microsoft® Windows® 95 and NT® developers. Using DynamiCube 1.3,
developers can now add the ability to store DynamiCube data and layout as
"Microcubes" on ActiveX Internet and intranet web sites.
As in previous versions, DynamiCube 1.3 provides high-speed data analysis
and dynamic views within OLAP applications. It works directly with
existing relational data sources, and provides instant dynamic
n-dimensional views of those data. Developers can download a fully
functional demo version of this ActiveX tool from Data Dynamics' Web site.
A new level of Web interactivity
"DynamiCube 1.3 is the world's first ActiveX OLAP tool for the Internet
," says Greg Boyd, Data Dynamics president. "Using DynamiCube 1.3 on the
Internet is quick and easy. Users can change a Microcube view and even
download data, while the original file remains unaltered at the Web
site."
Microcubes constitute a key new feature for OLAP developers. These are compressed, persistent representations — data that cannot be permanently changed by site visitors — of DynamiCube views. This allows companies to select production data from any ODBC database and store the data for easy retrieval from Web sites, LANs, email and workflow systems. Users don't need a connection to the production database to perform analysis.
Microcube files are extremely small and manageable, and easily manipulated using VBScript. DynamiCube HTML views let visitors to an ActiveX site filter data, pivot dimensions, drill-down and roll-up summary levels. Users can even email views to other DynamiCube users for comments and review.
Unlimited business applications
Potential business uses for Microcube capabilities are limitless. An
international sales manger, for instance, might break down a company's
sales figures by region or country, and post them as
Microcubes on the company's Web site. Individual national and regional
sales managers could
then open these Microcubes, manipulate and view the data however they
choose, and download what is useful.
Conversely, the same company might post all monthly sales figures on its Web site. The regional or national managers could then extract and view only the information they need, download it and even email it or paste it into other applications — saving an enormous amount of time and effort otherwise spent generating individual monthly sales reports for each area in the company.
In addition to adding Internet capabilities, Data Dynamics has also enhanced DynamiCube's user interface. Users can now split a screen view multiple times and hide columns for easier and more efficient viewing. Further boosting DynamiCube's analytical capability, data fields can be displayed as a percentage of row or column totals; a particular product's revenue can now be displayed as a percentage of total revenues, for example .
The same affordable price
DynamiCube 1.3 is shipping for $499, including royalty-free distribution
with any end-user applications. Registered users can download the new
enhanced version for free from Data Dynamics' Web site. Special OEM
licensing is also available. System requirements for DynamiCube are
Visual C++, Visual Basic 4.0, Delphi 2.0 or Access 7.0 for developers, and
Windows 95 or NT for run-time execution.
