You have two choices: you can either implement DeadMan Detection using SQL*Net v2.1 or later, or you can tune the TCP timeouts on your UNIX server. If you choose to do the latter, contact your UNIX system support vendor for details on how to patch the values of 'tcp_keepidle', 'tcp_keepintvl', and 'tcp_maxidle'.
