Hi,

  Can anyone figure out what I'm doing wrong here:

(i) I can connect using sql-plus on my Mac to a 7.3.2 Solaris Oracle Server

    using the login string user/password_at_machine1     {machine1 is defined in TNSnames as T:Machine:Ora1}

   This works fine!

(ii) I can connect to Personal Oracle 7 on my Mac using my programmatic
interface that calls OCI (a LISP application).

   eg uid = "SCOTT/TIGER"

(iii) Now the weird bit - if I try to connect to the Solaris Server from
the programmatic interface by changing uid to = "user/password_at_machine1" then it fails. I just get OCI errors of not logged in, and sometimes weird messages about archiving, and some unfound one - seems to vary.

A caveat - I believe I connected succesfully previously - the only change I made was to install the production version of PO7 rather than the demo version.

I am incredibly puzzled - because (i) shows the network is correct and
(ii) shows that my OCI using programming is correct: So what have I missed
in my reasoning ?

  Cheers,
   Winton
