  When I was in college, we had a pretty bad instructor in the Physics department, i.e nobody understands anything the guy says. I managed to ace tests after tests, because I can guess what math formula to use, even though I had no idea why. (You know, if the question relates to weight, then if there is only 1 formula with Kg in it, has to be the right one to use)

  In one lecture session, students ask for explanation of the solutions to some of the tests. And he asked who'd be interested. I among others, raised my hand. He said to me:

  • "but you did really well on the test"
  • "yes sir, but I still don't understand a thing"
