From what I've seen, many larger organizations split up the administration functions of Oracle databases between the unix administration and the oracle administration. Generally, the unix guy is the System Administrator and the Oracle person is the Database Administrator (or DBA). Since this implies turf wars, it is understandable that these people might be defensive regarding mere semantics. As someone who does both, it seems trivial to me, but what is more important is what the majority of the group thinks - especially newbies! New users of a group are the most affected by the group naming, and in turn affect (or ignore) the group the most as a result of the naming. Names such as .misc and .admin were fine when the population was a homongenous bunch of academics and CS researchers who would read a faq, but we have to deal with the general population now. Use English, not obscure English-like terms with special meanings. Leave _that_ to the DBA's. :)

In the long run, DBA's will be replaced by computers anyways.
