We are running Oracle Financials, and have our init.ora parameter
optimizer_mode set to "rule", just as Oracle suggests. However, we are
also doing development of our own around the Financials package. The
developers would like to alter their sessions to "cost" to take advantage
of a better optimizer. Therefore, we need to estimate statistics for
some of the Financials tables.
Are there other sites doing this already? If so, what criteria did you
use to determine which tables to estimate statistics for? Did the
developers decide this for you, or is there some algorithm we coud use to
determine whether any given table is worth gathering statistics for?
