O7.2 database in constant recovery as hot spare?

Hi,

I know that O7.3 provides the ability to have a hot spare database that is basically applying the archived redo logs from a primary instance. I have heard that it is possible to do this in O7.2 as well, although it isn't officially supported by Oracle Corp.

What I'd like is to hear from anyone who has done this in O7.2 and what your experiences with it have been. It seems simple enough to do and I have pretty good idea how to go about it, but I'd like to avoid any potential road blocks that I may encounter.
