In response to some of the recent discussions regarding Oracle's lack of commitment to IBM OS/2 Warp, we would like to state that Oracle has a clear and consistent strategy for the OS/2 Warp operating system. The Oracle RDBMS has been on OS/2 since 1988 and today's Oracle product set on OS/2 includes:

  • Oracle7 Server for enterprise customers
  • Oracle7 Workgroup Server for customers with workgroup business needs
  • Personal Oracle7 for the developer or connected user

Oracle also provides 3GL and 4GL interfaces with the Programmer/2000 product which include C, COBOL and REXX. In addition, Oracle supports the widest range of networking protocols for client/server development or deployment using TCP/IP, SPX/IPX, NetBIOS, Named Pipes and APPC/LU6.2.

In May 1995, Oracle and IBM established a joint marketing and development agreement to introduce new Oracle products for OS/2 Warp. This agreement has ensured that Oracle7 Server, Oracle7 Workgroup Server and Personal Oracle7 for OS/2 Warp are fully integrated with the operating system.

In addition, Oracle plans to release Oracle Developer/2000 for OS/2 Warp with general availability in second half 1996. Finally, Oracle and IBM plans to rollout a worldwide advertising campaign in the US, Europe and Japan promoting Oracle on OS/2 with respondents receiving a promotional Oracle and OS/2 Warp free trial CD-ROM. Discounted soft bundles of Oracle and OS/2 Warp will also be available.

These activities prove that Oracle is enhancing its array of products for OS/2 Warp and that both Oracle and IBM are committed to the success of Oracle on OS/2 Warp.
