This will work, but there are some things to consider.
First, it is important that the export-file is transferred using a FTP in binary mode.
Second, it cannot simply be done by backing up the export-file to a tape, since VMS-tapes are not readable by e.g. a HP9000 Unix-server, unless you have the software needed. You'll have to contact your local provider for the software.
