A fully standards-compliant web browser, PowerBrowser 1.0 extends basic Web browser functionality by supporting:

  • All Popular Programming Languages - including support for Basic and Java
    • Extensible Architecture - Netscape Plug In (including Macromedia's Shock Wave) and Network Loadable Objects (NLO)
    • Industry Standard Security - with Secure Sockets Layer (SSL)
  • Integrated Personal Publishing - with the Personal Web Server, individual users can easily publish Web pages and become active content providers for their web-workgroups or the entire enterprise
  • OCX controls - allows application developers to easily web-enable their existing Windows applications by embedding the PowerBrowser OCX control

Availability - Oracle PowerBrowser 1.0 will be available on Windows 3.x, Windows 95, and Windows NT. Today you can download Developer's Release 2 from

the Oracle Web site at http://www.oracle.com/PowerBrowser. A pre-production release will be available on April 1 that supports everything in the production release except Java.

Oracle's OLAP products
ORACLE Express family of products will be targeted at three primary business development approaches: 1) Value Added to Oracle Warehouse; 2) Value Added to Oracle Applications, and 3) OLAP Specific Solutions.

Value Added to Oracle Warehouse - OLAP products enable end user access and analysis functionality in the datawarehouse solution. Business analysis functionality is one of the key reasons why these projects are implemented in the first place. As part of the datawarehouse solution, the OLAP products are

a key component to deliver on this objective.

At a recent DCI datawarehousing conference, Express was identified as the leading product in two categories: multidimensional DBMS and end-user DSS tools. In a survey of more than 2000 attendees, nearly 40% of the respondents

indicated that they plan to implement an Oracle Express-based system in the next 12-18 months. And 95% of the attendees indicated that their companies were embarking on datawarehouse projects.

Value Added to Oracle Applications - The combination of OLAP products and Oracle Applications is ideally suited for business analysis and decision support. Oracle is including General Ledger Link to Oracle Financial Analyzer

as part of the Oracle GL 10.7 release. This enables customers to leverage the

financial data infrastructure within GL to drive implementation of Oracle Financial Analyzer (OFA) for budgeting and financial analysis. This link between Oracle GL and Oracle Financial Analyzer is unique when compared to competitors' GL products. It provides Oracle with a competitive advantage in new financial applications sales and an opportunity to go back into existing GL customers to offer the addition of OFA.

In competing for applications sales, OLAP Applications have proven to be a valuable differentiator. In a recent example, Oracle competed against Peoplesoft for a multimillion dollar applications opportunity at United Parcel

Service (UPS). The Oracle Financial Analyzer was presented to UPS as a high value option for reporting and financial analysis. The combination of Oracle Applications and OLAP proved to be a winning combination.

OLAP Specific Solutions - There is a significant market for standalone OLAP solutions. Prior to Oracle's acquisition of the OLAP products, these products

were achieving annual worldwide revenue of US $130 million. This was achieved

without the current benefit of Oracle's datawarehouse and applications initiatives. Today's market for OLAP specific products is highly fragmented with no clear market leader. Oracle is the largest provider of OLAP technology, and our goal is to take the dominant leader position as we go forward. The imminent releases of Express Server and Personal Express 5.0, Oracle Express Objects 2.0, and Oracle Express Analyzer 2.0 will be key to this success.

OLAP Product Availability
Express Server 5.0 and Personal Express 5.0 will be shipping in mid-April. Oracle Express Objects 2.0 and Oracle Express Analyzer 2.0 have completed their extensive Beta test and will be shipping in mid-April.

There is no other vendor that can cover the full spectrum of technology and value added services. Customers are proactively asking for OLAP solutions. With state of the art OLAP products and the natural synergy with the datawarehouse and applications initiatives, Oracle is poised to dominate the OLAP market worldwide.
