*Motorola Builds Distributed Data Warehouse Network World (Apr. 1, p47) reports that a division of Motorola has built a distributed data warehouse, using Oracle, of course. The distributed warehouse is divided across nine servers that are physically located across the U.S., Europe and Tokyo. Motorola is loading about two gigabytes of data daily, with an additional 20 gigs of information pumped in at the end of the month. "As a result of the Oracle warehouse, we are able to measure the performance of our manufacturing plants in a consistent way. We're also using the warehouse to improve quality and deliver products in a more timely way," said a Motorola IS executive. Nobody builds a better warehouse than Oracle!

Another Oracle Data Warehouse Success . . . CVS/Pharmacy Computerworld (Apr. 1, p77) highlighted another Oracle data warehouse customer, CVS/Pharmacy. CVS is moving from a mainframe-legacy system to client/server and chose the Oracle7 database system as the basis for a data warehouse designed to cut costs and provide critical information to corporate executives. The data warehouse runs on a 10-processor Pyramid Nile server. Oracle warehouses are springing up all over--don't let your customers be caught without one!
