all you need is delphi 1.0 and borlands sqllinks driver for oracle. I did development with vb4 and access in an oracle environment on unix boxes (sni) the performance without any specified oracle coding via odbc is really poor ! The performance you get with a 10 step point and click delphi app (my wording for 5 to 30 minutes test app) is quite unbelievable compared to the ms products. No doubt for me i have a choice for future products (and my customers don't say what to use) it will be delphi either 16 ans 32 bit.
But to answer your question more specific i do not know any way other than odbc to use SQL backends from within vb4. With delphi there is a borkland product called sql-links which does the job quite well.
