I hate to bug the newsgroup with this, but we're in need of a DBA...ours left for a more lucrative position in Clearwater several months ago, and we haven't seen any decent applicants in months of looking!

"We" are an electric utility (Bryan Utilities) that is part of the local municipal government (the City of Bryan), and our utility billing database is being moved off of an IBM 4361 mainframe onto a Data General 8500 / Oracle / SCT Banner software system. The new system is supposed to go parallel on April 8. We have a full-time application specialist, a part-time database tuner, and occasional visits from SCT programmers, but we need a DBA.

Bryan/College Station is the home of Texas A&M University, the Bush Library, and several other interesting things. Total area population, including both cities and the university, is about 150,000. Decent shopping, plenty of stores/restaurants/entertainment, but still feels very much like a small town, very friendly, fairly low cost-of-living, lots of rural area surrounding it if you want to live in the country/work in town.

See the following urls for regional and City of Bryan info: <http://www.rtis.com/reg/bcs/>

DBA position has great benefits package, low-stress working environment, reasonable flexibility with work hours, ~$35k or so. As the network administrator, I can also tell you that we are fully up-to-date on network technology (the oldest piece of network equipment is about one year old, and the City net is still growing) and you get full Internet access and a dialup account, so you're not missing out on the 'net by coming to a "small town!"

If you are interested and have questions, please send email to <hattaway_at_ci.bryan.tx.us>. If you want to apply, call (409) 361-3600 and ask for the personnel department. The job is listed as "Database Administrator" in the Electric Engineering division.

The City of Bryan is an equal opportunity employer. (I'm supposed to put that in, I believe.)

Thanks!
