Billy:
OFA refers to 'Optimal Flexible Architecture'. It is a standard for installing software, file system names, etc. developed by Cary Millsap of Oracle Corporation. It is discussed in some detail at the back of the Oracle Performance Tuning Guide shipped with the printed manuals that came with your software. Many people, including yours truly, use OFA, or a slight variation thereof, to build their Oracle environment. Believe me, you need a standard, whether its OFA or a home grown one. But remember, a lot of folks use OFA, so you will encounter it again when you change employers.
