I haven't as of yet tried to get VB 4.0 and Personal Oracle for Win95 to work together. However, the ip address 127.0.0.1 is a loopback address. It points back to your machine. For some reason, they decided to name it orcl. In any case, 127.0.0.1 is right on your desktop. It's you! However, it sounds as if you may not have the ODBC connection set correctly and it might actually be set up to use TCP/IP. That would probably explain why Win95 tries to dial out.

What do you have in the odbc setup as the connect string? I haven't messed with ODBC in Win95 yet, but I DO know that in Win 3.1, you had to setup Data Sources within the ODBC setup icon in the Control Panel folder. Then, to access that particular connection, you gave it a name and that's what you used to connect to a source using ODBC.

You might want to go to the control panel and run the ODBC icon and setup a data source first then try connecting to the Oracle database instance.

Hope this helps!
