Is it Practical: Excel, OLE, and Forms 4.5

I'm working on a project where the user is adamant about entering and manipulating data via Excel. The problem with that is the onerous task of data validation using Excel Macro language. I'd much prefer to somehow provide the Excel functionality within Forms so that we can get easier data validation and lookups but the users still get to use Excel. I know it is *possible* to get Excel to run within Forms 4.5 using OLE, but has anyone really done this successfully in a real-world application? How big a machine (processor speed, memory) did it require?
