Oracle Power Object Developers,
I have been tasked with writing a Mac and Windows interface to our oracle
database. To that end we have purchased the client-server version of Oracle
Power Objects. While I wait for our purchase order to twist its way through
Oracle I have started this project with the demo version (1.0.4). My
initial observation is:
It's slow! It's sluggish, slothful, lethargic. It's horrendously slow! I
created a form with two embedded sub-forms. Moving from one record to the
next takes over three (3) seconds (you know_ one Mississippi, two
Mississippi etc.). When adding a new record it takes an amazing four (4)
seconds before the record is cleared and another four (4) before what you
type starts to appear in the form. This is on a Pentium 90 with 32mb of
memory. I will be deploying on mostly 486s with 16mb. I don't think I'm
doing anything wrong, the sample applications are all kind of slow as well
(but not this slow). I really like Power Objects, it was great to take
what I had developed so far under Windows across the hall and have it
run without trouble on a MAC. But please tell me the production version
talking to an Oracle server via SQLNET runs *a lot* faster than this!
Thanx
