Replication or proxy across firewall?

Hello. Anyone out there want to share knowledge or experience about Oracle replication across Internet firewalls (from inside to outside) and/or proxy across a firewall to transmit queries from outside to inside and results back outside? For replication, is special Oracle networking software available and, if so, how would it be configured in basic terms? For proxy, can any http server be configured as a proxy server for Oracle SQL and result-set traffic or, again, is special software required?
