I'm presently trying to model an application that we are migrating from Personal Oracle to Workgroup Server. This is a development Database that requires the user to be able to remotely access it. I have a number of "Newbie Type" questions:
- I want to configure the Workgroup Server database to run on Windows NT Workstation 3.5 to be accessed remotely by a Windows 95 client using Visual Basic 4.0 in a RAS session under TCP/IP. Oracle's documentation discusses accessing the database as a Client on NT but not acting as server - I'm not missing anything am I ?
- I know my RAS session and TCP/IP are configured properly for dial out sessions but I haven't been able to confirm the dial in setup - next in test scheme. Trying to bring the database up locally (TCP/IP drivers installed) I get an ORA-06421error relating to named pipes - I assume that this is because I need to use another driver for local access - any suggestions ?
- My test plan <vbg> has the following format // test remote file & program access under RAS using TCP/IP // bring the oracle database up locally using whatever means necessary and test functionality & completeness of install // lastly access the database using TCP/IP RAS and TCP/IP drivers for oracle to simulate a distributed development environment - how does this look ?
- All / Any suggestions or advice from experienced Oracle developers, DBAs, and wizards is greatly appreciated ...... did I mention that I am working against the clock ???
