"Not login shell" stems from trying to 'logout' from a sub-shell.
Don't use 'logout', use 'exit' in this case.
I teach intro Unix to delegates and I recommend that they use 'logout'
if that's what they want to do (which seems to contradict my advice in here).
If the delegates are in a sub-shell, 'logout' will issue a warning telling
them this fact. If delegates learn 'exit' as the only way out, this command
kills the shell that receives it, and if that shell just happens to be your
login shell then you get logged out!
