If you are logging on to SQL*PLUS in shell script, how about using 
  WHENEVER SQLERROR EXIT number or WHENEVER SQLERROR EXIT number
but the number should be less than 255 otherwise it will return mod of 
the number.



Note: Use SQL*PLUS with here declaration.
