Why? How will ODBC communicate if not by SQL*Net? Don't kid yourself, everything, (with only a few exceptions), will use SQL*Net ultimately, even ODBC. The OpenLink ODBC driver is the only exception to this rule. In all other cases the ODBC layer simply provides another LAYER of DLL code that must be gone through before you reach the RDBMS.
