Please keep in mind that each log switch causes a check point. During check point, all dirty database buffers are written to files by database writers. This could be an expensive process if check points are occuring too frequently. Determine the frequency of check point by looking at alert log file, and increase the log file size if check points are occuring too frequently. But increased log file size means longer archiving time. So you need to consider performance degradation caused by writing of dirty buffers to files vs. archiving log file.
