I have been running PowerBuilder and S-Designor with a PO-7.2 database under Windows-95 for a week, and everything seems to work fine.
The following prosedures may be used for installation and setup:
- Install complete PO-7.2 for Windows-95.
- Delete all SQL-Net connections using SQL-Net Easy Config. This will avoid Oracle to start a dial-up connection during start and stop of the DB.
- Install PB-4.0 for Windows NT (Yes!, thats right, NT)
- Upgrade PB to 4.0.03 for Windows NT. Include the Oracle 7.1 native driver under installation (PB071040.DLL).
- Manually edit the PB.INI-file as follows. Note that the O71 entry will load the PB071040.DLL : Vendors=O71 (Oracle) DBMS=O71 (Oracle) ServerName=_at_2: LogId=xxx (should be system on first connection) LogPassword=yyy DbParm= ....
- Install the following files from the installation disks for Oracle 7.x for NT: C:\ORAWIN95\BIN\CORENT23.DLL C:\ORAWIN95\BIN\ORANT71.DLL C:\ORAWIN95\BIN\SQLTCPNT.DLL C:\WIN95\SYSTEM\CTL3D32.DLL C:\WIN95\SYSTEM\MSVCRT10.DLL
- Say a prayer and start PO-7.2 and PB.
- For connecting S-Designer Enterprise for PowerBuilder (4.2.0.2 / NT) to PO-7.2 the Visigenic 32-bit Oracle Driver may be used.
- The ODBC-driver can be downloaded from Microsoft's web:
http://www.microsoft.com/kb/deskapps/word/q140255.htm
- The connect-string for connecting SD to PO-7.2 with this ODBC-driver should be "2:".
- Good luck, and a happy new year!!!
