base number conversion

I need to convert base <x> to base <y> - eg base 10 to base 16, or base 255 to base 16 - if anyone has ideas on how to do this using sql I would appreciate it...oracle has functions to convert single digits, but cannot convert a number like 10010225 to 986E71 - as far as I have been able to ascertain.
Any ideas would be appreciated.
