Running +1 arch processes?

Ok I know you cant start more than one archiver process , but you can write a script that looks at v$logs and manually archives logs by invoking "alter system archive log logfile 'xyz'".

With a little effort, the script would keep track of which logfiles need archiving and ensure that database wont stall because the archiver is too slow.

So the question is: Does anyone have a copy of the above script that they would be willing to share? I would rather use a battle tested version than reinvent the wheel.
