I am in the process of creating a backup strategy for a Oracle7 Workgroup Server running on a Windows NT Server. The actual server is only a 575 Deskpro, 16RAM with a 500MB HD. This is a rather small server to backup but it makes good practice for when we start ordering bigger servers. This is what I would like to know:

  1. Does your organization backup the entire server, and backup the database? OR Do you only backup the database and once in a while backup the entire server?
  2. I was planning on making backups of the server only but this would mean that the next time I want to recover an old state of the database I would have to reload the entire HD's files. What I am thinking is that I would backup the database nightly (NoArchiveLog Mode) and backup the Windows NT Server maybe once a week. Does this sould right?

Any suggestions or insight on a good backup strategy would be appreciated.

Thanks,
