I am sorry to hear of your bad experience with dev2K, we have used the product since CDE was introduced (Forms 4.0) and have seen tremendous improvements in usability, performance and responsiveness (knowledge) from technical support in each successive release. With the experience that our shop has amassed we have come up with 3 cardinal rules for using the dev2K product:

  1. Don’t skimp on memory, you may get by on 16M, but will be happier with 24-32M.
  2. Reduce contention for conventional memory, load only the essentials. (Try setting up a bare-bones config.sys/autoexec.bat for development work which you load through the DOS menu)
  3. Learn the product! - One sure way to get Forms from the 1.1 release to bail on you was to change a group of object properties and exit the Layout Editor - BANG! instead if you return to the Object Navigator with the Window menu bar option....smooth sailing...

When we compared Forms to the VBs, PowerBuilders, SQLWindows, and currently Delphi Client/Server, they ALL have areas of instability (remember these are Windows apps!!). Once you’ve master each products idiosyncrasies, they are all usable. When you compare the functionality and development time/expense, Forms / Developer 2000 is hard to contend with on Oracle database applications.

My 2 cents,

Richard.
