The LONG problem

I need store long size text (1k or more), and for this I`m using LONG fields, in replacement of CHAR fields, to allow store more text.
The problem is: I need make copy, allow modification and store this modifications in another record. I had proved and read the documentation of package ORACLE and tools.
Somebody can tell me any way to do modiications on LONG fields in Forms 3.0, in statements PL/SQL for allow copy and store.? Can I use another equivalent type of data? Thank you in advance.
