The only cross-platform issues I've run into as a front-end are Windows 3.1/95 and/or NT which are pretty much the same.
The back-end really doesn't matter much with most of these tools. If you're in the Mac/X-Windows/ Motif world, of course, your concerns are different. I base my opinion on my own experiences and what I've seen in the market.
Just my opinion as I try to make clear!
