Yes, it's a good idea. I have a >20GB database running on Intel/NT with a RAID cabinet. For fastest I/O, use RAID 0. If data integrity is crucial, use RAID 1, 3, or 5 depending on how many disks you have. I can recreate my database very quickly from archives of the data feeds, so I don't worry about losing a disk drive.
