"Write Back" caching is employed (aka fast-Write) to improve RAID 5
performance. A write complete is sent back to the application and
the data is held in a battery-backed non-volatile RAM for destaging
to disk. Occassionally, vendors will use "write gathering" and
"parity caching" to further improve cache algorithms. Some high
end RAID systems come with mirrored write back cache in dual controller
configs. Hope this info helps.
