pausing the Oracle Reports tool

Here's to hoping our news server will transmit this...

I have a requirement to suspend the operation of the Oracle Reports Runtime program, shutdown the machine, and later restart the Report without loss of information.

Does anyone have any suggestions on how to do this? We are running Oracle 7 under SCO UNIX...
