Hi,

Well, I went through and manually rebuilt just about every Oracle executable on my machine, in order to try and get SQL*Net V2 running. When I run the "adapters" command to check for installed protocol adapters on just about any Oracle binary now, it shows I have these protocol adapters installed:

SQL*Net V2 Protocol Adapters linked with oracle are:

        V2 Pipes
        IPC (Unix Domain Socket)
        TCP/IP
        SPX/IPX

Now, when I try to connect through SQL*Net V2, I get:

        SQL*Plus: Release 3.1.3.4.1 - Production on Thu Oct 26 10:42:31 1995

Copyright (c) Oracle Corporation 1979, 1994. All rights reserved.

        Enter password:
        ERROR: ORA-01034: ORACLE not available
ORA-07318: smsget: open error when opening sgadef.dbf file.
HP-UX Error: 2: No such file or directory

        Enter user-name:

Now, what could be causing this error ? I run Oracle 7.1.3 on an HP 9000 750 with HP-UX 9.05.
